Stage and Platform MagicHaving stage equipment and illusions does not mean you're going into the furniture moving business. It can, but it doesn't have to. "Stage" means that the prop is large enough and/or the effect is large enough to be seen from a distance. Fire from Fingers is very small illusion to work with, but you wouldn't really want to do it any closer than from a stage. Here are some considerations when selecting stage equipment and illusions. The first is storage. Where will you keep the equipment at home? You would be best to have a dry room above the basement level of most homes. Can you keep the equipment covered, or better yet in it's original carton? Before you even start out for your performance, does the venue have a place where you can store your stage equipment, to set it up, and to take it down afterwards? Does the venue have a locked "cage" area for smaller gear? Much of a successful magician's stage gear is actually based on the "packs small, plays big" premise. Much of our equipment nicely fits in this category. How props get used is also important. Are they safe? Do you know how to use them with confidence? Some effects work best down stage, and others are great for up stage areas. Do you need assistants? How many? Does the item have sharp edges? Splinters? Do you have a repair kit to take care of the dings and dents that all equipment is heir to when it gets moved around? The bottom line with all stage equipment is logic, care and flow. Master those and you're ready for the "big" time. Page design and Copyright ©2003 Baughan & Company. All rights reserved. | |||||||||
